Permissions Needed for Thycotic Secret Server

Secret Server requires the follow permissions to run:

  • During installation, Secret Server will need write access to the entire directory where it is located. The user that needs write access depends on your environment but in most cases is NETWORK SERVICE. Once the installation is complete, the permissions can be changed back to “read.”
  • During Upgrades to new versions, the upgrade process will require “write” permission again.
  • The SQL user needs “read” and “write” access to the database Secret Server will use specified during installation. It does not need DBO permissions or access to Stored Procs.
  • Secret Server must be configured as an Application in IIS. For execution permissions, it requires “scripts only
