HID is changing the colour of the bottom enclosure for the coated and non-coated DP4500 reader. The finish method is changing from a high-gloss, chrome-plated finish to a sandblasted, spray-paint matte finish. The current chrome finish is environmentally unfriendly both in the manufacturing process and in product disposal. As a responsible industry leader, HID Global is dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of their operations and products and to helping end users around the world achieve environmental sustainability. As part of the HID Global‘s sustainability efforts, they are migrating to a more environmentally friendly matte-finish bottom enclosure.
In addition, new regulations have significantly increased the cost of the chrome plating manufacturing process. With global raw materials and finished goods prices increasing, HID Global are trying to reduce any additional price increases to customers.
There is no part number change. Once chrome bottom enclosure inventory depletes, the coated and non-coated DP4500 reader will change to the new matte finish bottom enclosures. As inventory ships, a rolling change may result in your order being filled with some chrome and some matte finish units. You can expect to see deliveries of the new matte finish in late October or early November depending on sales activity.
